What is the curriculum?

The Musikgarten curricula covers children from birth to age nine, offering parents a complete nine-year developmental plan. Each class is carefully designed by internationally respected early music specialist Lorna Lutz Heyge, Ph.D. to be truly developmentally appropriate. Children will enjoy the pure fun of these classes. Parents will appreciate the educational value. As we like to say, "Come for the fun, stay for the education!"

What is Music Literacy?

Music Literacy is being able to "see what you hear and hear what you see." (E. Gordon) The progression to music literacy is the same as that of language literacy: listen - speak (sing/play) - write - read. In the same way we learn language, we can learn music. Just as words and phrases make up the syntax of language, so tonal and rhythm patterns are the syntax of music. In our classes, rhythm and tonality are taught in simple, repeatable pattern, giving children the language they need to reach musical understanding.
